Food Stamps Suspension (SNAP), The shutdown is over now, but GOP efforts to use hunger as a political weapon highlights a fundamental cruelty that cannot be forgotten and must be defeated at the ballot box.
GOP Health Care Cost Crisis, 20 million Americans rely on the Affordable Care Act for health insurance. Trump's ending of the tax subsidies means that their health care premium costs will double on average. Five million will likely lose insurance outright. Health care cost for all Americans is rising and the GOP has scheduled their most savage cuts to Medicaid and Food Stamps to kick in after next years midterm elections. As Dems, we need to support the effort to end the GOP health care crisis.
Thanks to Sen Merkley for his epic 22 hour senate floor speech (linked here) protesting Trump's authoritarian power grab.
Thanks to our Rep Andrea Salinas for this video (linked here) explaining this in more detail.
Masked ICE agents are now active in Sherwood, they have taken at least two local residents in recent weeks. Our taxpayer money is being wasted targeting people who are not criminals or gang members. This is not keeping us safe, this is just simple cruelty.
Due Process is the law for ALL people. It's a founding principle of our nation. FEDERAL ICE AGENTS are not following due process. We are losing who we are as Americans.
Washington County has declared an emergency over the increased ICE activity in our local communities. The fear and disruption this brings to local families is not something we can turn our backs on.
The below events and these links contain more information and resources on how we can monitor these activities and help the families affected by it.
Banners on the Bridge: We are building a volunteer pool for hosting the Free Speech and Equity & Justice banners on the pedestrian bridge. Email us at SherwoodORDems@gmail.com to be added to the list and we will contact you when events are scheduled to check on volunteer availability.

Latest Update 11/3:
Our public pressure has resulted in a degree of success! WFC's lawyer just confirmed with that the WFC is not proceeding with the auction of the Magness Memorial Tree Farm, at least for now. It has agreed to a 60-day "pause" to give the LHNA time to pursue a mutually acceptable resolution.
We also have to convince WFC to donate the land on to the next entity and they will need funds to maintain and manage it since it has fallen into a state of disrepair.
The fight is not over but at least there is a pause. Keep the pressure on to pass the land on and not sell it for profit. We still need to raise funds, see below for more details.
****
Magness Memorial Tree Farm (MMTF) is being auctioned off by the World Forestry Center (WFC). The top bidder will be selected Nov 12 unless we can help stop the sale. We feel that it should not be sold for profit but transferred to another entity to continue the Magness Family’s intention as a public access wildlife sanctuary.
OUR #1 GOAL right now has to be public education. This public outcry might help the legal process. Forward this email to any others who may be interested in preserving this forest and wildlife sanctuary.
LHNA is requesting that you flood the WFC with letters, complaints, and pleas for preservation of the Magness Memorial Tree Farm.
Send correspondence directly to WFC

OUR #2 GOAL is to raise funds to cover our legal expenses by retaining our attorney and moving forward with a possible filing of a TRO (temporary restraining order) to prevent or postpone the sale of the property.
There are 2 ways to donate to this cause. No matter how you donate, we will make sure that you receive a letter confirming your tax-deductible donation.
1) Send a check to LHNA

2) Using your online banking application, send money to Ladd Hill Neighborhood Association at LHNA2015@gmail.com.
Help Get-Out-The-Vote and win local elections
This program consists of democratic neighborhood leader volunteers contacting up to 35 democratic families in their neighborhood and encouraging them to vote during election season. These contacts have been shown to increase democratic turnout by 25% and more during off year elections.
It provides a steady base of volunteers for each election cycle and helps build relationships with our voters. Volunteers get a slate card of democratic endorsed candidates and distribute them via mail or door to door. This is key to winning local elections and we need your help.
You can visit https://washcodems.org/neighborhood-leader/ for information or to sign up.
You can also email us at SherwoodORDems@gmail.com to ask questions or sign up via email.
